Debut novel by a rising author

In her debut novel, Peg Kingman tells the story of a young widow in 1822 Edinburgh caring for a child from her husband's previous marriage. The woman receives a package from her brother who reportedly died a year earlier. The package contains tea, a shawl, and bagpipe music including a piece titled "Not Yet Drown'd". At the same time the package arrives, the child's uncle visits, wishing to take the child to family in the United States.

Feeling there is a connection and compelled by strong feelings, the young woman takes her young charge to India to solve the mystery of her brother's disappearance.
