Good-bye Father is a follow-up to a book written by Richard Schoenherr and Lawrence Young titled Full Pews and Empty Altars. This book was written in 1995, but not published. After Schoenherr's death in 1996, a former student of his, David Yamane, made editorial revisions and prepared the manuscript for publication.
The book posits that the decline in the number of priests will force the Catholic church to change its ban on ordaining married men.
Schoenherr and Yamane's book is an important, though controversial, study and is one of the stronger books to take on this subject.
